Crews from the Springfield Fire Department responded to a Belmont Avenue apartment building at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, where there was a reported fire in a fourth-floor unit.
Firefighters worked quickly and had the flames knocked down and fire extinguished by approximately 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, though multiple apartments suffered water and smoke damage during the blaze.
Officials said that five residents were displaced due to the fire, and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad. Check Daily Voice for any new information.
